Innings: Test Cricket · Privacy policy
The game is offline. Play Games is not.
Innings plays entirely on your device and sends nothing to LeafSoft — we run no server and receive nothing about you. The game can sign in to Google Play Games, for its leaderboards, its achievements and a saved copy of your career. That is the only thing that leaves your phone, it goes to Google rather than to us, and you can switch it off without losing the game.
The short version
| Collected by LeafSoft | Nothing by the game. There is no LeafSoft account, no LeafSoft server, and no way for us to see anything you do. If you join the beta, the Google account address you give us — see below. |
|---|---|
| Collected by Google | If you are signed in to Google Play Games: your Play Games ID and gamer name; your scores on the game's five leaderboards; the achievements you unlock; and a saved copy of your career, so it survives a new phone. Details below. |
| Shown to other players | Your gamer name and your scores on the leaderboards, and — if your Play Games profile is visible — the achievements you have unlocked. Your saved career is private to your account. |
| Internet access | The app still declares no INTERNET permission. Play Games does its network work inside Google's own app, not inside this one. |
| Account or sign-in | Google Play Games only, and only if you already use it. Optional. |
| Advertising or tracking | None. No ad SDK, no analytics SDK, no advertising identifier read. |
| Permissions requested | None that ask you anything. From version 1.6.1 the app declares one permission that Android's own libraries add, online.leafsoft.innings.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION: only an app signed with the same key as Innings can hold it, it stops other apps sending messages meant for this app's own parts, it reads nothing, and Android never asks you for it. More below. |
Google Play Games
If your device has Google Play Games and you are signed in to it, the game signs in automatically when it starts. There is no login screen and nothing to fill in. If you are not signed in, the game's Play Games screen offers a Sign in button, which you need not press. If your device has no Play Games, the game's Play Games buttons do not appear. Either way the game plays exactly as it always has.
What Google receives
- your Play Games player ID, gamer name and avatar — the profile you already have with Google, not anything the game creates;
- a score on a challenge's leaderboard when you finish the Nightwatchman, Last pair or Save the follow-on challenge: the balls you faced and the runs you made in it, and nothing else about the match;
- in a career, your total Test runs at international level, and your Test batting rating after each Test, for the two career leaderboards;
- which of the game's achievements you have unlocked, and your progress towards the ones that count;
- from version 1.5.0, a saved copy of your career, written to your own Play Games saved games after each match so a new phone can carry it on: your career batsman as the game stores him (the name you typed, his country, the age he started at, his record and form) and your Hall of Fame, a one-line description, the number of matches played, the time you have played, and a picture of the game's screen as the save's cover.
That information is held by Google under Google's privacy policy, not by us. We never see it: there is no LeafSoft server for it to reach. We cannot read your name, your email, your scores or your position on any board.
What other players can see
Your gamer name and your scores on the game's leaderboards, and — depending on how visible your Play Games profile is — the achievements you have unlocked. Your gamer name is the one you chose in Play Games, which need not be your real name. Your saved career is kept in your own account and is not shown to other players. Nothing else about you is published.
How to turn it off, and how to delete what is there
- Open the Google Play Games app, then Settings. You can stop games signing you in automatically, and you can make your profile private so it does not appear on public leaderboards.
- To remove what has already been sent: Play Games app → Settings → Your data → Delete profile and game data, choosing Innings. That deletes this game's data in your Play Games account — your scores, achievements and saved career.
- Either way the game keeps working. Nothing in Innings needs Play Games to run.
What is stored on your device
The game saves its own progress so you can pick up where you left off. That storage stays inside the app's private area on your phone or television. Only the career is copied anywhere else, and only to your own Play Games account if you are signed in (above):
- the match in progress, so it can be resumed;
- your career batsman: the name you typed, his position, his record and form, and your past careers and Hall of Fame;
- your challenge results;
- settings: sound, camera, controls, shot markers, tips, your career partner and your guard in the nets, and which introductions and tips you have already seen;
- how long you have played, for the saved career's "time played".
Uninstalling the app deletes all of it from the device; a career copied to Play Games stays there until you delete it (above), and comes back if you sign in again. Finishing a match clears its save, and Retire ends the career, keeping a summary in Past careers. If you use Android's backup, the operating system may include this save data in your device backup under your own Google account; that is Android's feature, governed by Google's terms, and the game has no access to it.
Copy bug report, under Help and about in the game's Settings, puts a description of the game and its saves on your clipboard. Nothing is sent: it goes wherever you choose to paste it, and nowhere if you do not.
Permissions
Innings asks you for no permission, and declares no INTERNET permission. From
version 1.6.1 its Android package declares one permission, which the Android libraries it
is built with add for themselves:
online.leafsoft.innings.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION. Its
protection level is signature, so only an app signed with the same key as Innings
can hold it, and Innings is the only one that does. On Android 12 and earlier it is what
stops other apps sending the messages that parts of this app send to each other. It reads
nothing, reaches no network, and you are never asked for it. Versions before 1.6.1 declare
no permissions at all.
Children
Innings is suitable for all ages. There are no chat features, no links out to the web, no purchases and no ads inside the game.
Google Play Games has its own age requirements and is Google's product rather than ours. A child's account may not be able to sign in to it, and the game is fully playable without it. If Play Games is used, the one thing visible to other people is a gamer name beside a score on a leaderboard — which is why the gamer name need not be a real name, and why the profile can be made private in the Play Games settings.
Changes
The first version of this page, effective 12 September 2026, said that nothing left the device, and said that if a future version ever collected data — "for example an optional online leaderboard" — this page would describe it before that version shipped. Version 1.4.0, which added the game's first two leaderboards, was that version, and the version of 27 September 2026 described it.
That version also promised that if a later version stored your career with Google so it survived a new phone, this page would say so before it shipped. Version 1.5.0 did, from 27 September 2026, and it and the versions after it also added the achievements and three more leaderboards — and this page did not say so until the version of 10 October 2026. That was our mistake, and this is the description it should have had. Versions before 1.4.0 have no Play Games code in them at all and collect nothing.
Joining the beta
If you join the beta from leafsoft.online/innings/beta, the Google account address you give us — by email, or by joining the testers' Google Group — reaches LeafSoft. It is used only to add that account to the game's testers on Google Play, and to write to you about the beta if you wrote to us. It is not shared, sold or used for anything else. Leave the group, or write to us, and it is removed. The game itself still collects nothing; this is the only thing in this policy that reaches LeafSoft rather than Google.
